Corluka close to Barnsley switch

Vedran Corluka looks set to join Barnsley from Lokomotiv Moscow.

Division three promotion hopefuls Barnsley look set for their first signing ahead of the new season with the news that Croatian defender Vedran Corluka has agreed personal terms on a move from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow. The 27 year old centre back is certainly no stranger to the English leagues having had spells at five other clubs including Tottenham,Bristol City,Norwich and more recently Leicester City. In all the Croatian international has amassed 197 league appearances scoring four times and has featured across all four EC7046 divisions, experience which is sure to be vital as Barnsley look to clinch promotion from division 3 at the third time of asking.

Whilst nothing official has been released from either Barnsley of the players representatives it is expected that Corluka will be announced as a Barnsley player tomorrow with Brazilian defender Nivaldo Jardel one of two players heading in the opposite direction.

Rumours are also circulating around social media that Barnsley could be set to move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Andros Townsend on a season long loan. The promising 22 year old is thought to be still some way off first team action at White Hart Lane and Tykes boss Steve Thompson is hoping he can persuade Ben Newman to allow Townsend to move to Oakwell on a temporary basis.
